Editing Recipes & Cookbooks

This February, EFA Boston will be having Karen Wise and Jill Campbell come talk about editing recipes and cookbooks.

In this talk, Karen and Jill will discuss the basics of recipe editing and the differences between book and magazine work and the in-house and freelance experiences.

Bring your simmering (but not burning) questions!

Karen Wise got her start in book publishing in 1984 and has been a full-time freelancer since 1995. She provides copyediting and proofreading services for traditional book publishers as well as educational services companies, magazines, and corporations. Her specialty is cookbooks, though she also works in a wide range of trade nonfiction genres, including self-help, memoir, health, and parenting. Karen will be presenting a cookbook session at the annual ACES conference this spring. She tweets @wisekaren.

Jill Campbell is a copy editor at America’s Test Kitchen, where she works on the nationally distributed magazines Cook’s Illustrated and Cook’s Country; she was previously a copy editor and proofreader in educational publishing. She has earned editing certificates from both the University of Chicago and Emerson College and is currently pursuing a third. She has been an ACES member since 2014. She tweets about editing, mental health, and the frustrations of the MBTA @jillysull.
