EFA Chicagoland November Meeting: Reframing the Way We Network

November 17th @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm CST Free

Join us on Nov. 17 when fellow EFA members Brittany Dowdle and Linda Ruggeri will present “Reframing the Way We Network,” a presentation on a practical approach to networking for freelance editors.

Though networking may seem like an unwieldy, overwhelming task, especially for freelancers, this presentation will show that building the network you need and want is completely within your power. Dowdle and Ruggeri will help you plan your steps to create a network that is uniquely yours, based on your goals and networking style. This presentation is for editors, proofreaders, indexers, fact-checkers, translators, writers, and anyone else pursuing a freelance career in the publishing industry.

Dowdle and Ruggeri are the authors Networking for Freelance Editors.

Brittany Dowdle is a full-time freelance editor with over 10 years’ experience in the publishing industry. She has edited the work of best-selling traditionally published authors, award-winning indie authors, and international best-selling authors. She is a founding member of the Editorial Freelancers Association’s Diversity Initiative and helped design the Welcome Program, acting as its co-director in 2019-2020. Dowdle lives in the north Georgia mountains with her adventurous husband, their three cats, eight chickens, and many thousands of honeybees who make their home in traditional top-bar hives. When she’s not editing, writing, or exploring in the woods, she may be found reading a book in a patch of sunshine. Dowdle has been an EFA member for 10 years.

Linda Ruggeri is a full-time freelance nonfiction editor, writer, and authenticity reader (Spanish/Italian) specializing in memoir, cookbooks, and gardening books. Born to immigrant parents in Los Angeles, Ruggeri is Latinx and a first-generation American. She is the director of the EFA’s Welcome Program as well as co-coordinator of the LA Chapter. She loves to travel and has lived in Argentina, Italy, Canada, Wisconsin, and now California. When she’s not editing, Ruggeri is an urban gardener and baker, a writer, and the eternally exhausted mom of Nicolas. She has been an EFA member for 4 years.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 17, starting at 5:30 p.m. This event is free and open to all EFA members, their guests, and those with guest memberships—but registration is both required and limited.
