NorCal Chapter: Come Eat Pie and Learn About Cartooning
On November 19 we are eating pie. Yay! This November marks the end of my seventh year as NorCal EFA coordinator and I want to celebrate with you. I also want to celebrate and welcome our new chapter coordinator, Susan McLean.
In addition, we will have a speaker, Jon Chad, whose specialty is cartooning. As design and graphics continue to merge with the more “traditional” storytelling and information elements of publishing, there will be greater opportunities for professional collaboration (think graphic novels, infographics, data visualization, e-learning).
For this EFA meeting, Jon will start by overviewing what his cartooning process looks like, what is the common workflow of a graphic novel, and what sort of relationship exists between artist and editor in the modern comics publishing landscape. An open discussion will follow where Jon can speak to questions regarding comics, illustration, or applied cartooning.
Jon Chad is a cartoonist and illustrator living in Midtown, Sacramento. His work primarily consists of writing and drawing graphic novels about science for young readers, but he has also worked in fiction. As an illustrator, Jon has applied the language of comics to a wide gamut of jobs including mechanical design, pinball illustration, and graphic design.
Woo hoo! I, for one, am excited about this meeting. I am going to bring a pizza (savory) and a persimmon pie (sweet). You are also invited to bring a pie, drink item, or other snack if you wish.
