North Texas Chapter: Get Out of Web Overwhelm and Launch Your Site!

Want to build a website for your editorial business or improve the one you have? Then attend the North Texas Chapter’s  workshop, “Get Out of Web Overwhelm and Launch Your Site!” The event will be from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, October 14 at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library (downtown Dallas). We’ll meet in the Dallas West Room on the first floor. Chapter member Tia Ross will cover cost-effective ways to manage the critical steps in creating or enhancing a website.

Topics will include:

  • Low-cost professional web design options
  • Website tips and techniques
  • Content strategy
  • Choosing the right theme and plugins
  • Securing your site and minimizing spam
  • Hiring a web designer without overpaying

Tia is an editor who happens to be a true “techie.” She has been freelancing as an editor and web designer since the 1990s. Over the years, she has developed sites using HTML, CGI, XHTML, JavaScript, XML, CSS, and PHP as well as various content management systems, such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, SharePoint, and Adobe EM. Parking: The library is at the corner of Young and Ervay streets, across from City Hall. It has an underground parking garage on the Wood Street side of the building. Wood Street runs one-way going east. To enter the parking garage, use the first ramp; the second ramp is an exit, and the third ramp is the loading dock.

Parking on Saturdays is free temporarily. If that has changed by this meeting, here are the rates:

  • First 15 minutes: free
  • First and second hours: 75 cents each
  • Additional hours: 50 cents each
  • Lost ticket: $5
