Alissa Tallman

My primary aim in any editing assignment is to add value to a piece of writing and help its author get one step closer to sharing his or her thoughts and ideas with the appropriate audience.

I am an accomplished copy editor with considerable expertise in the eLearning and B2B sales/marketing industries. That being said, I’m capable of accommodating a wide range of subjects and tackling numerous topics with confidence. My present freelance projects include copywriting for a Philadelphia ad agency, revising cover letters and résumés, and providing manuscript editing services for authors seeking to self-publish or send their work to a traditional publishing house.

I’ve always thought of the editing process as being like garden weeding. When a piece of writing is in its early stages, it’s similar to a garden patch, where beautiful, vividly hued blossoms are emerging but trapped underneath tall weeds. My job as an editor is like that of a gardener, who weeds the patch to expose the flowers to the sun so the plants can flourish. Once I assess a piece and determine its underlying message, I refine that message by removing and adjusting anything that stands in its way of being heard. Then I’ll enhance the structure and flow of the piece and ensure the content’s consistency, accuracy, and clarity, which not only enables the message to be effectively delivered to its designated audience, but to shine.

I am focused, efficient, and disciplined when it comes to working on my own, which I’ve been doing for 12 years and counting—thus the ins and outs of remote projects are second nature. I am meticulous and thorough, and I often tend to submit a project ahead of a deadline in case any extra time is needed for adjustments or questions.
