My editor motto is to be a mirror of the text. I answer the question: how will what you have written be understood by a reader? You as the writer will assess whether or not that is what you intended. My job then is to help you achieve the polished manuscript you envision. This approach applies to both the big-picture of developmental editing as well as the nitty-gritty of copyediting. Helping a writer push their work to the next level is what it’s all about!
I work in both fiction (novels & stories) and creative nonfiction (personal essays & memoirs). The literary journal I founded received five Best American notable listings (three essays, one story, one special issue) in the space of six issues.
Formerly an in-house scholarly editor, I continue to work on a freelance basis on history, anthropology, and social science books. I can help: copyedit for grammar and style, reshape your dissertation into a monograph, make anthologies consistent in style and tone, and repurpose your scholarly book for a non-scholarly audience.
