Betsy Lumbye

After thirty-two years in journalism at newspapers around the United States, I retired as top editor of The Fresno Bee, Central California’s leading newspaper. I have since written three non-fiction books, including one (a memoir) as ghostwriter. I’ve produced news releases, promotional materials, reports and online content for businesses, nonprofits and political candidates. I have a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Virginia, and a certificate in copy editing from the University of California at San Diego.

I am an avid reader, news junkie, puzzle addict, dog lover and equestrienne. I’m based in Central California, and travel regularly to Northern Virginia. I’m available to work on projects in other locations.

My services include:

  • Writing (books, articles, op-eds, obituaries, speeches, reports, news releases, online content, promotional copy)
  • Ghostwriting
  • Editing (substantive, line and copy editing)
  • Proofreading

Areas of special interest:

  • Family histories
  • Local histories
