Michaels Editing

I have been a professional editor for over fifteen years. My experience spans every aspect of the publishing process, from author recruitment and developmental editing to copyediting and proofreading. Many of my clients are scholars or academic publishers; I also work with fiction authors, commercial enterprises, and nonprofit organizations.

As a freelancer, I have copyedited over a dozen books for major university presses, with a focus on Russian and Soviet history and American studies. My clients appreciate my “exceptional editorial and project management skills,” and  my ability to “bring clarity to complex historical subjects.”

I began my professional career as Senior Editor in the journals department of the International Literacy Association, where I oversaw publication of a bilingual (English and Russian) journal for educators. I was the liaison with the journal’s publisher in Lithuania and coordinated the journal’s international editorial team. By mentoring ELL writers and recruiting contributors internationally, I increased the geographic and academic reach of the journal.

More recently I was Associate Editor in the books division of Information Today, a small press specializing in library and information sciences, where I was involved in every aspect of book publishing, from manuscript evaluation to ebook creation.
