Hello, my name is David Strand, and I’m a freelance editor that specializes in developing and honing written materials for artists, authors, scholars, curators, museums, and the occasional small business owner. I offer developmental and structural editing, line editing and copyediting as well as proofreading. Recent projects include an art history PhD dissertation on the mid-twentieth-century Polish artist Alina Szapocznikow, and an exhibition catalog on the Indigenous fashion designer Sho Sho Esqurio. I am a recent graduate of the University of Washington’s certificate in editing program, and my professional backgrounds lies in museums. I worked at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle for six years as a project manager and eventually as a curator; where I wrote, developed, edited, and proofread a variety of texts. I also helped update and revise the museum’s in-house style guide, which was a significant undertaking. I love working with artists, authors, and organizations in bringing art and all the writing that helps illuminate its many meanings to audiences near and far.
