E.W. Maxwell Meyer

Laughing Saint Editorial LLC

I left the academic game when I was on top: a tenure-track assistant professor and university writing program director. The year that I resigned, I’d had three peer-reviewed articles published and had given a presentation at a national conference. Today, I’m enjoying the freedom of being the owner of LAUGHING SAINT EDITORIAL LLC (http://laughingsainteditorial.com).

As a copyeditor, I get to put the genre theory that I taught and researched when I was an academic to work in practical ways by helping people complete writing projects with confidence and precision. In my decade at research universities and liberal-arts institutions, I taught academic writing, business writing, technical writing, multimedia writing, rhetoric, and writing for nursing. As a freelancer, I’ve worked with business leaders, artists, and academics, to copyedit and proofread books, whitepapers, and websites (and lots more). When my schedule is full, I enlist the help of my clutch team of subcontractors on the Laughing Saint Editorial team, some of whom are my favorite former students.

My areas of specialization and research expertise include contemporary rhetoric (1940-present), writing studies (otherwise known as rhetoric and composition), English language/linguistics, conceptual metaphor theory, the cognitive neuroscience of language, autobiography and memoir, and religious studies.
