Beth Langelier

I am a master’s degree prepared editor of academic research specializing in nursing research. I have performed copyediting, proofreading, and typography work since 1998. Since 2007, I have assisted in the preparation of nursing research articles for submission to scholarly journals. I format and copyedit the papers per APA or AMA guidelines and work closely with the primary author to ensure the study scope, purpose, and design are conveyed with clarity and appeal. I perform literature research for fact-checking and to suggest updated citations. I format reference lists and citations per journal guidelines (correcting errors from reference management software). I format tables and figures for style and readability per APA/AMA guidelines.

In addition to journal manuscripts, I have assisted with the preparation of research proposals, NIH grant applications, organizational publications, and self-published literature in the health care field.

In addition to my work with research manuscripts and associated documents, I currently provide copyediting services to Wolters Kluwer Health for their online learning products.

A few of my successful assignments were outside of health care; for example, I have edited case studies, newsletters, and dissertations for customers in the fields of engineering, public health administration, and theology (respectively). All editing work is informed by the current style manuals from the American Psychological Association, American Medical Association, and University of Chicago Press.

In all my assignments, my work typically involves heavy copyediting with line by line revision and organization of content for the best flow. I have also successfully performed developmental editing.

Other experience includes:

formatted curriculum vitae in advance of the formal review

formatted dissertations for the binding process

composed content on nursing topics for newsletters, case studies, and presentations in Word and PowerPoint

created tables from SPSS data sets

entered survey questions into Qualtrics and used Qualtrics tools to organize and customize the survey.

I have a passion for editing non-fiction material. To stay current in this field, I have taken online courses from the EFA (Advanced Copyediting, Macros without Tears), and I am currently enrolled in a self-paced course on probability and statistics offered by Stanford Online. I recently earned a college certificate in Information Technology Applications. My two master’s degrees are in English and English Education (bilingual-bicultural education).

I look forward to assisting authors with a variety of writing projects for publication as a document, presentation, or web page.
