Elizabeth Langelier

I have master’s degrees in English and English Education (Bilingual-Bicultural Education), and for ten years I have assisted authors with the preparation of health care research articles for submission to scholarly journals. Within that time I have also been a freelance editor for healthcare-related books and monologues, research proposals, dissertations and curricula vitae. Perhaps my aptitude for biomedical writing stems from my passionate interests in health and nutrition and my facility for technical writing. I have a keen understanding of the flow of the IMRD paper and a thorough knowledge of its required content. Because I am not a member of the research team, I will ask for clarification of unstated premises, gaps in methodology details, and discrepancies between manuscript sections, and additionally I offer my impressions of subject matter and clarity as a lay reader.

I have memorized knowledge of APA and AMA writing and reference styles, and the most recent editions of the respective manuals are at arm’s length in my home office. I format references in short time, “manually” adjusting the list and citations to the required style, and I verify reference fields online for each entry. In addition to working with the main article and reference list, I format tables and figures for presentation and readability. I am highly skilled in reducing a document’s page or word count to meet the mandated limit.

I have experience working with every component of the research manuscript, from title page through appendices. I have assisted with various categories of research papers including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods; systematic reviews; case studies; and quality improvement projects. I am familiar with standard reporting guidelines (e.g., CONSORT, PRISMA, CARE, COREQ, SQUIRE), and I have edited papers for compliance with the same.

I recently completed a higher-education certificate in information technology that included training in current Microsoft Office applications and courses in database design, information and project management systems, and web site development. What this means for EFA clients is that in addition to my expertise in copy, line, and developmental editing, I have a solid understanding  of the relationship between text and media. Struggling with page/word count reduction in your Word document? Formatting fixes may partially resolve the problem before a single word is cut.

I look forward to assisting you with your research paper, proposal, monologue or book. In addition, I would like to share that for some years it has been my dream to assist with the production of a cookbook. I love to cook, and I develop my own recipes. I’m also a self-taught plant forager. If you are writing a book, white paper, magazine article or blog post on cooking, plant foraging, food and the environment or similar topic and need editorial assistance, please consider my service!
