Emily K. Reuter

Booknote Literary Services

I offer authors seasoned and polished book coaching by way of developmental editing, manuscript evaluation, proofreading, audio commentary, book reviews, consultation tutoring packages and digital products to help your manuscript blow agents and publishers out of the water. My developmental editing packages consist of page-by-page commentary along with a 5-10 page editorial letter where you are bound to spot areas of improvement you never even thought of. You have the option of a more advanced form of developmental edit for even further annotated commentary.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, as well as graduate degrees in Adult Education and English – Professional Writing. These credentials combined with my own experience of teaching college English while writing three of my own novels in the crime drama/romantic suspense category has led to skills that you are sure to find valuable. In short, I am prolific in all that I do.

From my graduate training as an adult educator, one quality I offer is the ability to give proactive feedback in a way that doesn’t squash or deter the meticulous effort put into your book. I employ the RISE model of informative feedback which stems from Bloom’s Taxonomy of higher learning and covers RISE-INQUIRE-SUGGEST-ELEVATE in my feedback. This brings all commentary to a level that engages you by improving your skills as a writer, not just helping you perfect your book. I also offer writing assignments and lessons as part of my book coaching packages for any section of your manuscript in need of TLC.

One quality I possess is the ability to find ways to remove excess wording and still keep the original concept of a scene. Additionally, my specialty is in developing characters and how to bring them to life on the page through skilled use of dialogue where each line has meaning to the plot, along with the incorporation of realistic sensory details that help ground the reader in the scene.

I am based out of the Pacific Northwest, yet work with clients from all over the world. I do my best to work with a client’s budget, schedule and specific needs for each project, meaning that I take the time to get to know your goals and concerns before moving forward. I also keep regular contact with you throughout the project. My goal is to develop a close working relationship with long-term merit that stays with you long after your book is completed.
