Open Boat Editing

I have been editing in the D.C. area for over 12 years. I have been an in-house researcher, editor, and transcriber for Bob Woodward since 2007, and assisted with his five latest New York Times best-sellers from the beginning of the research process to publication. These books have focused on the American presidency (covering Presidents Bush, Obama, Nixon, and Trump, respectively) and the surrounding issues of politics, defense policy, international relations, and economic policy.

Through my freelance work at Open Boat Editing, I have done developmental editing for many self-published and indie authors, including Rob Blackwell (author of the Sanheim Chronicles and the Soren Chase series) and Sonora Taylor (author of Please Give, The Crow’s Gift, and Without Condition). I particularly enjoy working with first-time authors, genre writers, LGBTQ authors, and clients local to the Washington DC area.

I have collaborated closely with a variety of nonfiction authors on politics, history, military affairs, current events, student debt, science, creative nonfiction, and business projects. I also provide writing coaching to nonfiction clients in the Washington D.C. area.

I copyedit various public-facing materials for corporate clients in the banking, personal finance, and hospitality industries.

I also perform frequent edits of small scale but great significance. Copyediting of personal or small business websites, résumés, business plans, syllabi, menus, and wedding invitations and programs are all available upon request. (Please visit my additional website, www.TheProofreadBride.com, for additional wedding editing details.)

I’m a graduate of George Washington University in Washington D.C., where I majored in English and Creative Writing. One of the best life-long lessons I learned there was how to take joy in helping to improve already excellent work. The collaborative process between writer and editor is extremely rewarding. I know from my own writing experience how vital a trusted editor can be, and what a profound difference their work can have on the writing process.
