James Edward Gedney

James the 46er

I am a recently retired middle and high school English teacher with over 28 years of experience as an educator. Needless to say, I have spent countless hours instructing students in the craft of both expository and creative writing and in the development of those skills we connect with the written word – grammar, spelling, syntax, brainstorming ideas, evaluating resources, researching, developing a thesis, writing drafts, proofreading, editing, and rewriting. I am now ready to apply the skills I have honed over the years as an educator and an author to assist others in their pursuit of excellence in written communication. With an extensive background in teaching literature, I am interested in helping authors of fiction, particularly first-timers. I also have an interest in non-fiction, especially the genres of memoir, true adventure, travel, politics, history, music, art, film, nutrition, and of course, education. I am most ready for proofreading assignments but am also looking for opportunities for copyediting, developmental editing, and line editing. Opportunities to ghostwrite are also welcome. Finally, in addition to working with student writers, I have also worked with adults, ushering them through a portfolio creation process as part of a teacher credentialing program that I supervised. Thank you for reading my profile, and I hope to have the opportunity to work with you or your organization on a project.
