I began work in publishing in 1999 as the Religion Book Review Editor for Publishers Weekly magazine. I was there for nine years, then served as an acquisitions editor for Westminster John Knox Press for four years while I also did freelance editing.
In early 2013 I moved to freelance editing and writing full-time. My areas of expertise are religion, spirituality, fiction, memoir, history, biography, women’s studies, and popular culture. See http://janariess.com/editing-service/ for rates and author testimonials.
I am the author or co-author of fourteen books and have a Ph.D. in American religious history from Columbia University.
