Jessica Kaplan

Westwood Press

I am a developmental editor, fact checker, and independent publisher (traditional model) based out of Portland, Oregon, with a focus on works from the humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, or those that delve into current affairs.

Within the publishing industry I have worked as an editor, fact checker, proofreader, writer, and publishing associate. In particular, I enjoy helping authors to develop, shape, and organize the larger themes within their works. On the other hand, I also focus in on the fine details, both creative and analytical, and draw from my background in academia to help authors (trade or academic) research, fact check, and uphold rigorous standards to their works.

I received my PhD in Anthropology, and was an instructor of record, teaching assistant, and guest lecturer for over eight years at the University of California Santa Barbara, teaching anthropology, sociology, and university-required writing courses.

I also own and operate a traditional publishing company with my partner. We also offer consultations for new and experienced authors looking to learn more about the industry and the editing and publishing process.

I look forward to working with you!
