Joan Liebmann-Smith, Ph.D. is an award-winning medical writer, an editor, and a medical sociologist.  She has been a developmental editor for books by physicians, nurses, psychologists, and lawyers, among others. Her published books include Medical Marijuana (Avery/Penguin, September 2021) Baby Body Signs (Bantam, 2010), Body Signs: How to Be Your Own Diagnostic Detective (Bantam, 2007), The Unofficial Guide to Getting Pregnant (Wiley, 2005), The Unofficial Guide to Overcoming Infertility (Macmillan, 1999), and In Pursuit of Pregnancy (Newmarket, 1988). She also ghostwrote Women Under the Influence (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2006) for the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University.  Her articles have appeared in AARP Bulletin, Ms.,  Newsweek,  Redbook, Self, and Vogue. among others and on such websites as Health News Digest, Savvy Magazine Online, Senior Planet, and Women’s Health.gov.  Dr. Liebmann-Smith is also a consulting editor for the dermatology service of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and holds memberships in the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA), Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ), and Science Writers in New York (SWINY).
