Joelle Edouard

I am a former English teacher with over 15 years of experience in public and private secondary classrooms. In other words, I have proofread and edited many papers! More than that, my years working with young writers have made me especially skilled at editing while retaining the author’s voice.

My time teaching internationally has also given me experience it giving tactful feedback to writers for whom English is not the first language, and my own linguistic background as a fluent French speaker and student of other languages has given me a particular level of empathy as well.

Additionally, as a woman of color, I understand the fine line BIPOC writers walk when it comes to maintaining their authentic voice in the editing process. I bring my lived experiences as an expat in West Africa and as a first and second generation immigrant as an extra layer to my work.

As a lifelong learner, I am always eager to learn about the subject matter of work I edit. However, it is always a treat when I can edit work about topics that fascinate me, such as education, health, travel, dance, and cooking.
