Your manuscript is nearly ready for submission but needs to be checked for the basics—consistency, coherence, and cohesion. Your novel needs a critical reader to help tighten up the storyline, aid with character development, or energize the dialog. Whether you have an essay, a research paper, or a short story, I am excited about working with you on your project. To it, I bring tempered judgment and a strong desire to maintain your vision and voice while meeting the needs of the assignment.
I edit mainly nonfiction books, journal articles, and research papers. Though I enjoy reading and editing just about anything, I am partial to academic nonfiction, speculative fiction (especially dystopian fiction), and mysteries. As your editor, I also ensure your writing follows the conventions of the preferred style guide (Chicago, MLA, APA, or an in-house guide).
I worked extensively with EFL writers for over twenty-five years at a college-prep school in Osaka, Japan. During that time, I wrote six in-house textbooks, including three on composition. If you are a writer whose native language is not English, your writing is in good hands. For writers specifically in Japan or writers working with Japanese companies, I do Japanese to English translations of short compositions: announcements, notices, memos, letters, and business emails.
