Kathleen A. Kelly

Gray Bevins Editorial

Hi! My name is Kathleen and I’m an academic non-fiction editor and research grants consultant. I can guide you through the editorial process and enhance your project. I’ll review your work and edit it with intelligence, care, and rigor, helping you to prepare your manuscript for submission to scholarly publishers.  I am a committed advocate for my authors, a highly skilled developmental and line editor, and a results-driven proposal development specialist.

A former university press acquisitions editor, I primarily work in academic non-fiction and specialize in American studies, architecture and design, anthropology, art and visual studies, Black studies, Brazilian studies, biography, ethnic studies, ethnography, creative non-fiction, cultural studies, Latin American studies, Middle East studies (focus on Iran and Turkey), sociology, women’s history, and twentieth-century literary studies.

Based in Austin, Texas, I founded Gray Bevins Editorial so that I could do more of the work that I’m passionate about: collaborating directly with writers and publishers to develop their projects into stellar manuscripts that match the writers’ greatest visions for their work. As a woman-owned editorial firm, I’m especially committed to promoting the publication of women’s writing.

Whatever stage of writing you’re at—whether you’re looking for an editor to help craft a winning pitch for your non-fiction book proposal, assistance in developing a writing sample, or completing a fellowship application—I’d love to hear from you!

Or perhaps you’re looking to transform a dissertation into a publishable book manuscript. Or, if you’re multilingual, I can help polish your English-language work. I also have advanced level fluency in Spanish.

Maybe your faculty needs a workshop about the academic publishing process, about how to assess prospective publishers, and about best publication strategies.  I can help with this. I have extensive experience in all these areas. You can learn more about my editing and workshop services at my website .

When I’m not editing or providing workshops, you’ll find me trying to perfect upward-facing dog in my yoga practice, or enjoying forest baths in Austin’s various greenbelts and parks. Or a combination of both! And . . . I relish in my responsibility as a plant parent.

Reach out to me with any questions you might have. I’d love to discuss your project!
