Gray Bevins Editorial

With diversified experience in the book publishing industry — first as a publisher’s representative and regional sales manager and more recently as an in-house university press acquisitions editor — I am a committed advocate for my authors, a highly skilled developmental and line editor, and a faculty professional development consultant.

A book editor, I principally work in academic non-fiction and specialize in American studies, architecture and design, anthropology, art and visual studies, Brazilian studies, biography, ethnic studies, ethnography, creative non-fiction, cultural studies, Latinx studies, literary fiction, Middle East studies, poetry, sociology, women’s history, and twentieth-century literary studies. My clients have published with or are under contract with various university presses including University of California Press, Cornell University Press, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Rutgers University Press, University of Texas Press, and the University Press of Florida. To learn more about what my clients have said about working with me, read here.

Based in Austin, Texas and Norman, Oklahoma, I founded Gray Bevins Editorial so that I could do more of the work that I’m passionate about: collaborating directly with writers and publishers to develop their projects into stellar manuscripts that match the writers’ greatest visions for their work.

Whatever stage of writing you’re at — whether you’re looking for an editor to help craft a winning pitch for your nonfiction book proposal, assistance in developing a writing sample, or completing a fellowship application — I’d love to hear from you!

Or perhaps you’re looking to transform a dissertation into a publishable book manuscript. Or, if you’re multilingual, I can help polish your English-language work. I also have advanced level fluency in Spanish.

Maybe your faculty needs a workshop about the academic publishing process, about how to assess prospective publishers, and about best publication strategies.  I can help with this. I have extensive experience in all these areas. Stop by my website to learn more about the editorial and workshop services I offer.

As a woman-owned editorial firm, I’m especially committed to promoting the publication of women’s writing.
