My number one job as a copyeditor is to help you tell your story, in your voice, with your personality. I correct errors, smooth awkward language, work out logistics and timelines to make sure they’re solid, and make sure your manuscript follows the style guide of your publisher, all while retaining your unique voice.

By the time you’re searching for a copyeditor, you have gone over your manuscript many times to find and correct errors. Errors still get overlooked, though. Maybe one of your characters knows a bit of information in chapter five that isn’t revealed until chapter seven. Maybe you forgot a comma or misspelled a word.

When we write, we know what we meant to say, so it’s hard for us to see what we actually said. That’s just how the human brain works. The best professional writers use copyeditors.

Beside fixing errors, I can show you where you might tweak vocabulary or sentence structure just a bit to turn a good story into a can’t-put-it-down page-turner. Whatever level you are in your writing, I’ll point out non-essential words, unintentional rhymes, alliterations, insensitivity, or other issues that dull or distract from your message. I will also make sure your work is understandable and flows smoothly with strong transitions, unity, variety, and coherence.

Whether it’s Chicago Manual of Style or Associated Press Stylebook or a style that is particular to a specific publishing house or periodical, I make sure that each manuscript in my care conforms to the preferred style guide, right down to footnotes and bibliography. I use the most up-to-date style guides and software available.

Though I write and edit on various topics, my areas of expertise are science fiction, fantasy, drama, horror, historical drama, romance, religion, cross-cultural communication, science (non-tech), and academic.

Besides editing, I am available for proofreading, beta reading (manuscript evaluations), and rewrites. I have a knack for rewriting complicated material to make it easier to understand, rewriting for ESL, rewriting websites for better customer-targeted presentation and SEO, writing worksheets and other support for classroom and home schooling, and writing product descriptions. On very few occasions, I will ghostwrite for authors who have an incredible story or idea. It never hurts to ask.

My native language is American English. I have much experience with Aussie English, but my Aussie is a little rusty. Some experience with UK English.
