Kay Jones

As a published copyeditor, researcher, indexer, and writer, I bring a wide range of experience to current projects. Corporate training materials are my editing specialty, with non-fiction books in the social sciences coming in a close second.

In terms of my approach to editing, I believe that it should be a dialogue with the author(s) of any work. My job is to make sure that what’s on paper—what was intended by the author—will be accurately perceived by the reader.

My education background is in the linguistics field; I’ve studied six languages, including Latin, Chinese, French, and Japanese, in addition to English. Proofreading experience includes Asian-language romanization systems such as (for Mandarin Chinese) Wade-Giles, Yale, and Pinyin. I have worked extensively with non-native speakers of English on projects such as dissertations and white papers.

In addition to the editing projects that I take on, I also do instructional design, mostly for soft-skills training courses and cross-cultural training.
