Goetz Done

I am a scholarly publishing professional with more than 20 years of experience in journal and textbook editing. In addition, I am a skilled project and people manager.

I am proficient in the American Medical Association (AMA) manual of style, having edited hundreds of journal articles and textbook chapters for medical associations. For 18 years I worked in the publications department at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, first on the Academy’s flagship publication, the clinical peer-reviewed review journal titled Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, then as Managing Editor of Textbooks, and then again on the flagship journal as Managing Editor of the review content.

Since 2018 I have worked with several medical societies and scholarly publishers on textbooks, journal articles, and confidential internal strategic documents. In addition, I have edited two books on association leadership written by the owners of a consulting firm that specializes in helping associations grow and thrive.

Current and former clients include the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, HMP Global Learning Network, International Agency for Research on Cancer, Radiological Society of North America, American Academy of Pediatrics, National Association of Healthcare Quality, American Marketing Association, American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, .OrgCommunity, and the author of a self-help book.

With each job I strive to perform meticulous, thoughtful edits, always with good humor and a professional collegiality with my clients. As appropriate, I edit for inclusive language and consideration for differences, whether based on ethnicity/race, sex, gender, sexual orientation (LGBTQIA+ status), class, and the like.

Medical editing is my primary area of expertise, but I have degrees in women’s studies and history and am interested in editing manuscripts by, for, and about LGBTQIA+ persons.

Please let me know how I can assist you in your project.
