Laura Handley
I am an independent line editor, copyeditor, and proofreader with the ear of a poet and the precision of a mathematician, currently available to provide editorial support for both fiction and nonfiction manuscripts.
My past projects have included novels, short story and poetry collections, a play script, and a wide variety of nonfiction materials. I welcome unconventional projects: mixed-form creative works, proofreading in odd places, and anything blending the literary with the digital. I also enjoy working with self-publishing authors and, in addition to editing, will gladly advise them through the process of transforming their manuscript into a book available for sale.
Clients have been impressed by the quality and speed of my work and have called me insightful, thorough, communicative, and patient.
I have completed the EFA’s courses in Developmental Editing and Copyediting, along with several creative writing workshop courses. In my spare time I run a weekly writers’ group, write fiction and poetry of my own, and read everything I can get my hands on.
I have also earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech, worked as a bookseller and receiving manager for Barnes & Noble, and summited the high points of 38 US states.
