Michael Broek

I’m an English professor with a PhD in Literature and a Masters in Creative Writing, and I have extensive experience in developmental editing, copy editing, proofreading, and indexing projects in the fields of education, the humanities, and social sciences. In my most recent projects, I have worked with scholars publishing full-length manuscripts and articles with major university presses and peer-reviewed journals, as well as fiction writers polishing their manuscripts. I also work frequently with PhD and Masters students – both native English and ESL speakers – to edit and shape their proposals and dissertations.

Before teaching college-level composition and research, I worked for several years as a copy editor and a features editor for a major daily newspaper, and I have worked in government as a Public Information Officer – designing, writing, and editing publications – for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. In addition, I have published numerous scholarly articles in the areas of literature and cultural studies, as well as an award-winning book of poetry from Alice James Books, and I currently work as the Managing Editor for Barrow Street, a literary journal.
