I have 15 years of experience as an independent editor. My goal is to serve you as the author and to make your work the best it can be while still preserving your unique voice and vision. My skills include substantive editing, copyediting, and line editing. Most of the publications I have edited have been books, e-books, and journal articles for scholarly and general audiences, but I have some experience with fiction, memoir, and children’s literature, and I would like to transition into those fields. Whether the publications I have edited have been nonfiction or fiction, I have enjoyed helping to tell untold stories. Please let me help you tell yours!
Please see my resume for a list of selected clients and publications. I have edited in the following academic disciplines: law, literature, longevity genetics, and religious history.
I am also a writer of nonfiction, short stories, memoir (essays mostly), children’s literature, and poetry.
I graduated summa cum laude from DePaul University with a B.A. in English (GPA 3.99). I am a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honors Society, and I received departmental honors by faculty selection.
Until recently, I served as the membership director for Chicago Women in Publishing (CWIP). I am also a member of ACES: The Society for Editing, the Freelancers Union, and the International Association of Professional Writers & Editors.
Aside from editing and writing, I am also an activist for the environment, peace, and social justice, particularly disability rights. If you do work for any of these causes and require any of the services that I offer, I would be happy to work with you within a mutually agreed-upon budget, or, if the work is particularly compelling, I might even consider it on a pro bono basis.
Hobbies include reading, corresponding, crafting, singing, and observing local wildlife. I enjoy photography. In the past, I have also acted, done magic, ridden horses, and played piano, all of which I hope to do again someday.
