Molly Mullin

An experienced editor with a PhD in cultural anthropology (Duke) and a BA in history (Wellesley), I work with authors in fields across the humanities and social sciences, including STS, urban studies, and the history of architecture and planning. I provide substantive editing of book chapters, entire book manuscripts, and journal articles.  Recent clients include authors at Princeton University, UNC, the University of Michigan, Osaka University, UC Berkeley, TU Delft, Harvard, and MIT. Recent projects have been published by Oxford University Press, Routledge, Duke University Press, Indiana University Press, the University of New Mexico Press, the University of Washington Press, American Quarterly, American Ethnologist, HAU: Journal of Ethnographic Theory, BioSocieties, the Journal of Asian Studies, the International Journal of Communication, and World Development.

From 1995 to 2012, I was a professor at Albion College, where I taught writing-intensive courses in anthropology, women’s and gender studies, environmental studies, and international studies. When I decided to leave my academic position as a full professor, I took a course in manuscript editing at the University of Chicago’s Graham School. I was also fortunate to be mentored by editors who had worked in academic publishing for many years.

I am the author of numerous articles and a book, Culture in the Marketplace: Gender, Art, and Value in the American Southwest (Duke University Press, 2001). I am the co-editor of a volume, Where the Wild Things Are Now: Domestication Reconsidered (Berg, 2007), and I have written chapters for books published by the University of California Press and Cambridge University Press.

Authors say great things about my work: “You point at things I have not thought about. You also point at things that are vaguely in the back of my mind but not clear enough for me to work with. You are absolutely terrific!” “Hiring you is the best idea I’ve had in a long time :-).”
