Writer, published author, speaker, spokesperson, teacher — Wessman works with message and audience to assure clear, concise, consistent communications. Although she never aspired to be a writer, Wessman’s written news, features, annual reports and white papers, public health information and education materials, websites, and books. Starting in high school and as her first job after college, she worked three different times at her hometown weekly newspaper. She also taught high school English, worked as writer/editor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and built public information into a comprehensive communications and public relations service within the Mississippi State Department of Health. As a contractor, she developed a distance learning course in emergency preparedness and response for Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, her alma mater for the master’s in public health degree.

In publishing, roles range from author’s assistant to book coach, cheerleader, editor, marketer, newspaper associate, proofreader, publicist, seller, typographer, and website developer. Wessman’s done a little bit of every step in the process, having worked with traditional, hybrid, and self-publishing enterprises to produce quality books, articles, and reports. She worked as developmental, copy, and/or line editor for Mike McCall’s Catfish Days: From Belzoni To The Big Apple, Bob May’s Have Fun, Dammit!, Dale Beasley’s What I Learned At The ‘Zoo, and Wade Spruill’s Raising The Star: Mississippi Milestones in EMS and A Few Related Stories and Archie’s Tale: Life as I Saw It. Additionally, she has delivered manuscript evaluations and is coaching a pediatric occupational therapist in development of her memoir.
