Nathan Toronto

Nathan Toronto LLC

Nathan Toronto works to imagine a better world. He studies military education and Middle East politics, and has taught strategy, international relations, and security studies at the UAE National Defense College and the US Army School of Advanced Military Studies. He has a soft spot for books, which is one reason he writes science fiction in addition to his academic research in political science. Living in the Gulf region opened his eyes to the challenges and opportunities facing the world today, which why he moved to Washington, DC, where he consults clients on military education and security cooperation.

Nathan offers copy editing, proofreading, line editing, developmental editing, and research support for any writing (fiction or non-fiction) on a military- or security-related theme. His native tongue is English, but he is also fluent in Arabic and Spanish, having lived in Latin America and the Middle East for 18 years. He has advised over two dozen research projects by non-native English speakers, so he is ideally positioned to assist those for whom English is not a native tongue.

Nathan is the author of How Militaries Learn: Human Capital, Military Education, and Battlefield Effectiveness (Lexington Books, 2018) and Rise of Ahrik, a military science fiction novel. He holds a PhD and MA in international relations from The Ohio State University, a Certificate from the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) at the American University in Cairo, and a BA in international politics from Brigham Young University.
