Lucid Edit

Are you looking for a literary agent, or preparing to launch your book yourself?

The goal of every edit is to help you realize your vision for a compelling, riveting, can’t-put-it-down book. After working with me you will know what works in your manuscript and what needs work. You’ll also know how to approach revision. I believe every manuscript has a soul, and it’s my privilege to work with writers to let that soul shine through.

I’ve edited literary and commercial fiction, fantasy, science fiction, alternate history and middle grade fiction. If you write non-fiction, I’m a skilled developmental editor of self-help and how-to books, as well as memoir, autobiography, and essay collections. And if you are a practitioner of the art of drama (play, screenplay, or radio play), I can help you there as well.

My clients have gone on to get agents, achieve traditional publication, and win awards as self-publishing authors. We work together in many ways, including developmental editing, critiques, manuscript evaluations, stylistic or substantive editing, and (depending on your publishing goals), copyediting. I also offer query critiques, outline evaluations, synopsis critiques, and one-on-one video conferences about your book. My clients have called me “extraordinarily insightful” and “gentle but ruthless.” I tell the truth about your manuscript while at the same time providing support and encouragement for the work ahead. For testimonials, please visit my website.

As a fiction writer myself, I have been on both sides of the editorial exchange and I know that good editing can make a profound difference to your writing life. I have an MFA in Writing from Pacific University (ranked in the top 5 low-residency program by Atlantic Monthly), where I was mentored by some of America’s finest writers.

I’m also the author of FICTION EDITING: A Writer’s Roadmap. This essential resource for writers examines why writers work with freelance editors, demystifies the editorial process, and explains how to save time and money if you work with an editor.

I’d love to hear from you. Visit me at Lucid Edit to read testimonials from writers I’ve worked with. If you think we might be a good fit, take me up on a sample edit–it’s free, and entails no obligation to proceed.
