Stephanie Y. Evans, PhD

Georgia State University

Greetings, I offer general manuscript review and in-depth developmental editing services for academic authors. In 2003, I earned my PhD in African American Studies with specializations in history and politics and a graduate certificate in Advanced Feminist Studies from University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  I am a tenured full professor and I served twelve consecutive years as department chair at Georgia State University, Clark Atlanta University, and University of Florida. I have published nine books (SUNY Press, University Press of Florida, and Wayne State University Press) and my manuscript review work has included presses from NYU, Syracuse, and Columbia to University of Mississippi, Oxford, and Routledge.

My writing guide, Black Feminist Writing: A Practical Guide to Publishing Academic Books (SUNY, 2025) was reviewed by EFA’s Editors Weekly in February 2025 (details: https://blog.editors.ca/why-academic-editors-should-read-black-feminist-writing/ ).

Using my writing guide that outlines five levels of practice (personal, professional, publishing, public, and political), I work with scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and STEM, particularly in race and gender studies. I also accept work with faculty on select projects in creative nonfiction and memoir. I do not work with faculty writing journal articles or textbooks. Though I do not work with graduate students, I can offer group dissertation workshops.

Schedule a 15 minute consultation to see if my expertise can help with your academic book project. I do not offer proofreading, copyediting, line editing, or ghostwriting services. I look forward to supporting you in your next book project! For more information, visit my website.
