Susan Canavan Editorial
A 20-year veteran editor from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, I have deep and extensive experience in acquisitions, developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, proposal and manuscript evaluation, writing, ghost writing, book doctoring, project management, permissions, and photo research.
In my career I have acquired and edited multiple New York Times bestselling books, managing all aspects of book publishing from concept to publication and beyond. I have edited nonfiction in the areas of narrative history, investigative journalism, memoir, science, sports, adventure, nature, outdoors, pop culture, health, fitness, self-help, illustrated, and more. I have also edited fiction – novels and short stories.
I have a keen eye for narrative, scene and character development, pacing, narrative tension, structure, through lines and the highest quality storytelling. I also have experience writing and editing prescriptive nonfiction.
I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with authors, nurturing their creativity, shepherding them through bringing a notion to a narrative with real chops. I love nonfiction that reads like fiction and can manage and edit all aspects of a project, macro to micro.
I can help you get published or if you are under contract I can give you the inside scoop on how to deliver the best manuscript possible.
With an MFA in Creative Writing, I also offer writing and ghostwriting services.
