Mindful Editing

I’m a crackerjack editor whose focus is always on readability. Well-written prose conveys with ease and finesse the author’s message, whether the goal is to inform, delight, or inspire. My goal as an editor is to help authors express their messages clearly, concisely, and accurately. I’m also a resourceful and successful project manager.

I’ve edited educational and professional texts throughout my career, and a few years ago, added trade manuscripts to my repertoire. I also edit assessments. Challenging and enjoyable projects include textbooks for both El-Hi and college-level markets; step-by-step instruction books for craft markets; practical, how-to manuals for professional tax practitioners and accountants; and trade books, including novels, memoirs, self-help books, and other nonfiction texts. I maneuver easily between fiction and nonfiction assignments.

My skills include substantive editing, content editing, line editing, copy editing, project management, and grant writing. I work directly with authors, publishers, and publishing services companies. I’m an expert user of the Chicago Manual of Style and various house style guides. I use online tools, including ExamDeveloper and Learnosity, to develop assessment materials.

Trade, Nonfiction: My focus is on preserving the author’s style while improving the text to best convey the author’s message.
Trade: Fiction: I deftly handle dialogue and continuity issues.

Textbooks: I edit content for textbooks and ancillaries in both El-Hi and college markets. My editorial work includes substantive editing and copy editing. Developmental activities include drafting revision plans, selecting and developing topics or skills for texts, and writing guidelines for freelancers. I have experience working with state standards, particularly in correlating content to state standards for several programs.

Professional Publications: I have several years’ experience editing technical material geared toward the accounting industry; emphasis on packaging highly specialized guidance in a practical, “how to” manner.
