FOCUSING EXCLUSIVELY ON FICTION!

Manuscript Assessments | Developmental Editing | Line Editing | Copy Editing |

Literary and Historical Fiction | Science Fiction and Fantasy | Thrillers and Mysteries | YA

I am a published author and the lead editorial Fiction Specialist for authors at Cenveo, BookBaby’s preferred vendor, where I have edited a broad range of literary fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy, horror and suspense, and YA novels.

I have also worked on a wide range of novels for traditional publishers Page Street Press and Clean Reads, the online leader in “clean” ebooks, including fantasy, science fiction, paranormal, and dystopian novels.

My developmental editing focuses on the larger issues of a manuscript. For fiction, this includes fortifying dramatic structure…aligning internal conflict with external struggle…enriching setting (time/place/social order) and strengthening “world-building”…fortifying pacing and character arc…bolstering “voice” and writing technique.

My line editing and copyediting focuses on refining and sharpening writing by focusing on sentence-level issues: smoothing flow and transition; eliminating ambiguous and imprecise sentence structure; eliminating redundancy and wordiness; ensuring precise word usage and proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation; sharpening dialogue; and ensuring consistency in style and tone.

My background includes an M.A. in Creative Writing from Boston University and a B.S. in Earth Science from M.I.T. Before pivoting my career to edit Fiction, I edited works for the World Health Organization, the New England Journal of Medicine, and the U.S. National Park Service. Writers of sci-fi, historical fiction, and memoir find my writing/science hybrid background uniquely insightful. On a personal note, Editing fiction and memoir is my dream job; I like to say my editing incorporates both a writer’s deep-seated love and “feel” for the English language and a scientist’s sense for how logic, flow, and precision empower a well-crafted story.

“A phenomenal editor.” — Stephanie Taylor, Managing Editor, Clean Reads

“All you could hope for in an editor.” — Norbert Monfort, Independent Author
