This 6-week online course in Copyediting assumes that participants have a basic knowledge of copyediting skills and are interested in honing their skills in querying, preserving author voice and style, and advanced grammar points (wordiness, sentence structure, parallelism, common writing flaws). Students will also learn how to be flexible and even “break the rules.”
Required readings will be from the following texts:
- The Copyeditor’s Handbook, 4th edition, Amy Einsohn (The accompanying The Copyeditor’s Workbook is not required for this course, although it has exercises you may want to do on your own.)
- The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed.
- Carol Saller’s The Subversive Copyeditor
