You’ve polished your fiction as well as you can, and now you’re ready to send it off. But is your manuscript ready to be seen? You want to present the best version of your work, but how do you accomplish that? And how do you ensure that elements such as unusual formatting and different types of dialogue are understood by the people who will be working on your story?

This webinar will demonstrate how to use Microsoft Word features to edit and format your manuscript. We’ll go over standard manuscript formatting, Word styles, bold vs. italic vs. underline, and more. Whether you’re getting ready to send your manuscript to a freelance editor, submitting to an agent or publisher, or preparing your manuscript for self-publishing, using these tips to format your manuscript will make life easier for everyone who works on it, making for a professional first impression and a smooth path to publication.

This class was developed for authors, but it’s also good for editors looking to add a manuscript preparation step to the editorial process.

Mia Kleve (she/her) has been an avid reader since she was a kid. She stared with fantasy, mythology, and science fiction, but now she also reads pretty much anything, having added mil-SF, thrillers, and mysteries to her TBR stacks. She’s one of those people who always has a book, but failing that she will read just about anything with more than two words strung together. She started her editing career as a proofreader, then moved into line, copy, and developmental editing. She became a full-time freelance editor in 2019. In addition to her author clients, she also works with several publishers.
