Developmental edit - qualitative education dissertation-to-articles project
🟡 NON-RATE-CHART CONSISTENT
Description
I am seeking a developmental editor and scholarly thought partner to help me transform my qualitative education dissertation into two to three academic journal articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
My dissertation focuses on teachers’ development of critical consciousness through life history narrative interviews, with connections to teacher education, equity-oriented pedagogy, and justice-centered scholarship. The dissertation contains rich qualitative data and a strong conceptual framework, but I would like support in moving from a dissertation structure to focused, compelling, journal-ready manuscripts.
At this stage, I am not looking for copyediting or proofreading. I am looking for developmental support with identifying the most promising article possibilities, clarifying the core argument of each manuscript, determining what belongs in each article, condensing dissertation-length material, and shaping the writing for academic publication. I would like to work with someone who can help me think strategically about audience, journal fit, manuscript structure, and the balance between theory, method, findings, and implications.
The work may include reading the full dissertation or selected chapters; preparing an editorial memo with recommended article pathways; meeting to discuss possible manuscripts; assisting in "carving out" articles from the full dissertation, and helping me revise one or more articles toward submission. I am especially interested in working with someone who can be both practical and generative. The ideal candidate understands academic publishing and can help me make the work sharper, more focused, and more publishable while preserving my voice and the integrity of the research.
Ideal candidates will have experience with academic developmental editing, education or social science scholarship, qualitative research, and dissertation-to-article projects. Familiarity with teacher education, critical pedagogy, race/equity scholarship, narrative inquiry, or critical qualitative methodologies would be a major plus.
This is a remote project. I am open to discussing whether the work is best structured hourly, by phase, or by project. Ideally, I would like to begin in June 2026, first by identifying article possibilities and then by moving one manuscript toward submission by July 2026. If the collaboration is a good fit, I would be interested in continuing the work on additional manuscripts.
Please respond with a brief description of your relevant experience, your availability, your rate structure, and any examples of similar dissertation-to-publication or academic developmental editing work.

Line editor - fiction - epic fantasy novel
✅ RATE-CHART CONSISTENT
Description
I am seeking an experienced line editor for an adult epic fantasy novel currently in the agent querying stage. The manuscript is approximately 112,000 words and has already gone through multiple rounds of revision, beta reader feedback, and query preparation.
The novel is a multi-POV adult fantasy with literary elements, centered around themes of reincarnation, identity, power, grief, and belonging. Comparable authors/tone would include The Inheritance Trilogy and The Poppy War — character-driven epic fantasy with elevated prose and strong emotional interiority.
I am specifically looking for a line editor (not proofreading or a purely developmental edit) who can help strengthen:
prose clarity and flow,
sentence-level readability,
reduction of redundancy and repetitive emotional beats,
pacing at the paragraph/chapter level,
dialogue sharpness,
and overall narrative cohesion while preserving voice and tone.
While this is primarily a line edit, I would value an editor who is also comfortable flagging larger narrative or pacing concerns where appropriate.
I would especially value editors with experience in adult fantasy/speculative fiction and/or traditional publishing backgrounds. Experience with epic fantasy or literary-leaning fantasy is strongly preferred. Strong communication and professionalism regarding timelines and process are important to me.
If interested, I’d appreciate hearing a bit about your relevant experience, editorial approach, availability, and whether you offer a sample edit.
I am flexible on scheduling for the right fit, but ideally would like the edit completed within the next 1-3 months.Job Details

Copyeditor - memoir - Alzheimer's and grief
✅ RATE-CHART CONSISTENT
This job involves potentially sensitive or triggering content.Description
CONTENT WARNING: contains discussion of medical aid in dying
I am the editorial director of a publishing partner company for independent authors. We are looking for a copyeditor for an upcoming memoir, with potential for more projects in the future. Word count is around 30,000. Project would likely start mid-June, with a one-month turnaround time. Delivery will include manuscript with tracked changes and completed style sheet. Copyeditor will work in Word and follow CMOS conventions along with our house style guide.
The short description:
[BOOK TITLE TBD] is a deeply intimate memoir about love, loss, and the choices we make in the face of an uncertain future. When Debbie’s husband is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, their marriage is reshaped by the slow erosion of memory—and the urgent clarity it brings. Determined to avoid the prolonged suffering the disease promises, Roger chooses a medically assisted death. This is the story of a wife walking beside him through that decision: through the progression of his illness, the weight of goodbye, and the quiet, disorienting aftermath. [TITLE] is both a portrait of a marriage under extraordinary strain and a meditation on dignity, grief, and what it means to let go.
--
I’m looking for a sensitive and experienced narrative nonfiction copyeditor who is comfortable working with emotionally complex subject matter and can bring not only a strong editorial skill set to the project, but also empathy, openness, and compassion. This memoir addresses medically assisted dying, so I’m seeking someone who can engage with the material thoughtfully and without judgment toward the author or the subject matter.Job Details

Copy Editor for Children's Book
🟡 NON-RATE-CHART CONSISTENT
Description
Looking for a copy editor to edit my children's book manuscript "BB Brown...It's Top Secret". This is the first book in my book series "BB Brown". The series revolves around the title character BB Brown who is a strong willed, mischievous albeit kind-hearted 9 year old girl. Maybe akin to a modern day Tom Sawyer. She is supported by a loving faith guided (Christian) family (Mom, Dad and Grandpa). With every book, she will undergo a situation that may challenge her views, morals and connect to her family's stance on their faith.
This first book is approx 1200 words. Ideally, I would have the manuscript edited this week so that the illustrator can begin her process. I have written screenplays but this is my first time as a book author. Looking for an experience editor to edit the book and provide any guidance.

Developmental/Line Edit - Non-Fiction Self-Help
✅ RATE-CHART CONSISTENT
Description
Project Overview:
I have a completed 13-chapter non-fiction self-help manuscript (approx. 35,600 words). The book explores my journey from childhood into adulthood, specifically navigating and growing within a male-dominated industry. It includes my personal framework, stories of resilience, and actionable lessons for readers.
Scope of Work:
The manuscript was drafted with AI assistance, so while the structure and logic are sound, the prose currently lacks a distinct "human" voice and emotional depth. I am looking for a Book Doctor or Heavy Editor who can:
1. Conduct a developmental pass to ensure the "childhood to adulthood" arc is compelling.
2. Perform a heavy line-edit/rewrite to replace AI-sounding text with a warm, authoritative, and authentic human voice.
3. Ensure my specific framework is clearly integrated into the narrative.
Qualifications:
Experience in Memoir or Self-Help is preferred. I am looking for someone who isn't afraid of "heavy lifting" and can help me move this from a draft to a professional, Amazon-ready book.
Budget & Timeline:
My budget for this project is between $1,500 and $2,000. I would prefer to work in milestones (e.g., payment per 3 chapters). I am aiming for a final polished manuscript by [Insert your new goal date, e.g., September 1, 2026].
Request:
Please include a brief note about your experience with similar "rewrite" projects. I will ask finalists to perform a 2-page paid sample edit to ensure our "voices" match.Job Details
