Developmental editor - non fiction book focused on inequality and climate change
✅ RATE-CHART CONSISTENT
Description
I am currently preparing a book proposal for a trade nonfiction book tentatively titled: How the Human dragons (AKA Billionaires) are destroying the Middle Class and our Planet: a Users’ Manual on How Ordinary Americans Can Fight Back, which examines the connections between wealth concentration, media influence, political power, and climate change through a unifying “Human Dragons” framework.
I would like to hire a professional editor to work on three sample chapters for the proposal (Chapters 1, 3, and 6, approximately 27,000 words). I am looking for a thorough developmental/line edit that goes beyond grammar and copyediting. In particular, I am seeking help with:
• improving narrative flow and pacing,
• tightening and shortening sections where needed,
• sharpening transitions,
• and making the chapters more commercially compelling and agent-ready while preserving my voice and scientific credibility.
The manuscript is written for a broad trade audience and combines political economy, climate science, media analysis, and social commentary.Job Details

Developmental editor - trans-disciplinary essay - Spanish/English
✅ RATE-CHART CONSISTENT
Description
Seeking a Spanish-to-English translation, transcreation, and academic editing service for a transdisciplinary essay. The manuscript applies a systems approach (General Systems Theory and Dissipative Structures) to a case study on the tensions between natural and artificial systems. The manuscript begins with a theoretical-experimental approach that branches out into the conceptual and culminates in a new transition into the realm of narrative and visual art. My intention is to submit this piece to the journal Leonardo (MIT Press). The essay is approximately 3,500 words (2,700 of text and 750 of references) and already has a preliminary version in English. The style and tone should be conceptually rigorous, narratively fluid, and accessible to an art science audience, in line with Leonardo journal’s expectations. Project deadline: May 24, 2026 (approximately).

Copy-editing - PhD Thesis - Dance / Chinese Aesthetics
✅ RATE-CHART CONSISTENT
Description
I am seeking an experienced academic editor to help with the final minor corrections of my PhD thesis following a successful viva.
Manuscript details
The thesis is approximately 80,000 words and is in the field of curatorial studies, dance and performance studies, museum studies, and Chinese aesthetic philosophy. The thesis develops a Qi-based curatorial methodology for exhibiting Chinese dance heritage in contemporary museum and gallery contexts. It engages with concepts including Qi, Xiang, Yun, Chinese dance, dance exhibitions, affect, atmosphere, participation, embodied practice, and decolonial curating.
Scope of work
I am looking for an editor who can provide both detailed copy-editing and broader academic editing support. The work should include:Copy-editing and academic language refinement
Improve grammar, clarity, sentence structure, flow and academic tone.
Ensure the writing is polished, coherent and suitable for PhD submission.
Maintain my conceptual style and voice while improving readability.
Reducing repetition and streamlining the argument
One of the examiner’s comments was:“A shortcoming is that the thesis is often repetitive. The same concepts flow throughout the writing, which perhaps is redolent of Qi itself; nevertheless, the thesis could benefit from a sharp editor’s ‘pencil’ to streamline the arguments.”
I have already removed some repetition myself, but I would like an experienced editor to identify further unnecessary duplication, reduce repetition where appropriate, and help streamline the argument while preserving the thesis’s conceptual flow, rhythm and academic tone.
Citation and reference checking
I need support with checking citation details and references, including:correcting citation format where needed;
adding missing publication dates where identifiable;
checking that in-text citations appear in the reference list;
identifying missing or incomplete references;
flagging anything that cannot be confidently corrected.
Minor corrections awareness
The thesis has passed viva with minor corrections. The editor does not need to rewrite the thesis or make major structural changes, but should be attentive to the examiner’s concerns around clarity, repetition, citation consistency and overall polish.Preferred qualifications / experience
The ideal candidate will have:experience editing PhD theses or academic monographs;
strong familiarity with UK academic English;
experience in humanities, arts, performance studies, museum studies, curatorial studies, cultural studies, or related fields;
ability to edit complex theoretical writing without flattening the author’s voice;
confidence working with references and citation lists;
sensitivity to cross-cultural academic writing and Chinese philosophical concepts.
Experience with Chicago Author–Date or similar academic citation systems would be especially helpful.
Deadline
I would like the editing to be completed by the end of May. Please indicate your availability, expected turnaround time, and whether you can complete all of the tasks listed above within this timeframe.
When applying, please include:your relevant academic editing experience;
areas of subject expertise;
whether you can check citations and references actively, not only flag issues;
whether your editing includes repetition reduction and argument streamlining;
your estimated fee for a thesis
your expected timeline;
a short sample or portfolio of previous academic editing work, if available.

Copyeditor - YA multicultural fiction
✅ RATE-CHART CONSISTENT
Description
I am excited to introduce TEMPLE OF TIDES, a multicultural chapter book complete at 10,500 words. It will appeal to readers who enjoy the vibrant community spirit of Atinuke’s Too Small Tola and the folklore-driven adventures of Efua Traoré’s Children of the Quicksands.
In the West African village of Naambe, the full moon brings storytelling nights, but it also highlights a growing crisis: food scarcity is threatening the community. While most are content to simply listen to the ancient tales of Mami Wata, the legendary water princess, young Bintou and her best friend Agueh decide it is time for action. Together with Bintou’s cousin Awa who reveals a secret past attempt of her own the trio sets off on a supernatural expedition to find the goddess and save their home.
Their journey takes them through misty, spirit-guarded forests and into a mesmerizing underwater realm where they must prove their worth to a mystical gnome. To secure the healing orb for their village, the girls must reach the Temple of Tides, solve ancient riddles, and confront their deepest personal truths within a sacred basin. They return not just as survivors, but as the architects of a new narrative of hope and leadership for the next generation.
I am a multi-certified educator and wellness professional currently based in Lima, Peru. My background as a metalsmith jeweler, yoga instructor, and guidance counselor informs my belief in the power of self-discovery and uncharted journeys. This story is deeply inspired by the multicultural legends I cherished during my own childhood summers spent with my cousins.
Thank you for your time and consideration of my work.
Sincerely,
Binta C. Ouedraogo-Notaras
