After 26 years in our current building, the EFA national office is moving to new digs!

New mailing address:
266 West 37th St., 20th Floor
NY, NY 10018

Visitors’ entrance:
520 Eighth Avenue
New York, NY 10018

We’re moving on June 25. Our phone numbers will stay the same.

Please note that the office will be closed on June 25 and 26 due to the move.

We hadn’t been looking to move, but our sublease came to an end when our landlord lost their long-time lease as area rents have moved from cheap-to-reasonable to very pricey.  I’m excited to share with you some of the highlights of our new situation.

This move takes us from the Flower District to the Garment District in Manhattan. Our new spot is more convenient to transportation from outside the city and is close to fifteen subway lines (up from our current eight). Come visit!

We’re also very excited about our new building, home to numerous nonprofits including several arts and media organizations, and our new landlord, the Media Law Resource Center. Like us, Media Law is nonprofit membership association. They provide “a wide range of resources on media and content law and policy issues” for “content providers in all media,” many of whom are freelancers.

While our new space doesn’t come with a large room to borrow as we have currently, elsewhere in the building are a few event spaces we can rent on an as-needed basis for the January potluck, the June Annual Meeting, and possibly chapter events (NY Chapter members, stay tuned for more info from your coordinator, Ruth Mullen, on where the next event will be held).

Many thanks to Ruth, Christina Frey, and Bill Keenan for their help with the search and selection process for the new space.

71 West 23rd Street is the only address most of us have ever known for the EFA’s HQ. But we haven’t always been here. While sorting through materials in preparation for the move, and with help from member Elliot Linzer, I’ve come across these past addresses:

People’s living rooms
St. Marks Church-in-the-Bowery, mid-1970s
30 East 20th St., early 1980s
36 East 23rd St., 1988-1992
71 W 23rd St., 15th Floor, 1993-1998
71 W 23rd St., 19th Floor, 1998-2007
71 W 23rd St., 4th Floor, 2007-2019

We’ve also been  listed at the iconic Flatiron Building (175 Fifth Avenue). That was a mailbox drop only, however.
