Robyn Thomas

RLT Copyediting

Robyn Thomas is a freelance copyeditor/proofreader based in Michigan, with recent experience copyediting nonfiction, fiction, and business related documents. She holds a B.A. in English and secondary education from the University of Tulsa, copyediting certification from the University of California San Diego Extension, and Missouri state teacher certification in Language Arts 5-9, English 9-12, and Journalism 9-12.

After several years working with middle and high school students in the English/Language Arts classroom, Robyn realized that the most enjoyable aspect of teaching, beyond the interactions with students, was the responsibility of helping them improve their writing through corrections, writing technique, and a bit of creativity.

This epiphany led to a career change in 2017. Robyn obtained her certification in copyediting from UC San Diego Extension and has been actively pursuing freelance copyediting work since.

Some of Robyn’s copyediting experience includes editing a 40,000 word memoir, a 73-page accreditation report, and the alumni magazine of a prestigious private school. Additionally, she has worked as a sensitivity reader on a middle grade novel.

Robyn has experience in various school settings, including independent schools, public magnet schools, and schools with a large number of low performing students.
Most recently, she taught 8th grade English/Language Arts at Ferguson Middle School in Ferguson, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. Before the birth of her children, Robyn taught 9th and 10th grade English, Pre-AP English, and served as the newspaper sponsor and editor at Booker T. Washington High School, one of the best high schools in the state of Oklahoma. She also has previous experience as a teacher’s assistant, substitute teacher, and reading specialist.
