HULYA N YILMAZ

Professor Emerita (The Pennsylvania State University, University Park – PA, U.S.A.), Hülya N. Yılmaz has served as editorial consultant for a large number of academic and literary manuscripts of national and international content with her extensive experience in all the five major types of editing, ghostwriting, literary translations, and book evaluations and critiques. She has extensive experience in manuscript compilation and formatting as well.
Hülya is a published author (in three languages with her own translations)*, ghostwriter, literary translator. In a freelance capacity, she has been active as the Director of Editing Services at Inner Child Press International since 2013. Her poetic work has been published in an excess of one hundred and fifty-five anthologies of global endeavors and presented at numerous national and international poetry events in the U.S. and abroad, including Jordan, Tunisia and Kosovo. In 2018, the Writer’s International Network of British Colombia, Canada honored Yılmaz with a Literary Excellence award. As of 2017, two of her poems remain permanently installed in Telepoem [sic] Booth – a U.S.-wide poetic art exhibition.
Dr. Yılmaz’ academic career spans over 40+ years, during which she has designed and taught courses that were groundbreaking as far as traditional curricula in her fields of expertise; namely, Germanic languages, literatures and cultures, comparative literature studies, and Turkish studies. Her most-cherished instructional focus was creative writing. In her intermediate-level as well as advanced composition courses, she has introduced her students to the discipline of editing, enabling them the hands-on practice of writing, self-editing and editing the work of others.
Hülya’s academic publications and treatises dwell on the literary reflections of cross- and inter-cultural influences over multiple centuries. After completing her unconventional dissertation, i.e., encompassing two study fields at The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan – U.S.A.), she has authored a comprehensive research book on the influences of Rumi and Hafiz on the 19th and 20th century mainstream German literature. Her doctoral project was published under the title Das Ghasel des islamischen Orients in der deutschen Dichtung (The Ghazal of the Muslim Orient in German Literature).
Among her numerous scholarly treatises and national and international conference presentations, her book chapter in a scholarly publication by Palgrave McMillan of the U.S.A. stands out: “Orhan Pamuk: The Imagined Exile”. Hülya examines the 2006 Nobel Prize for Literature recipient Orhan Pamuk’s highly acclaimed novel, Snow within the context of Sufism, i.e., Islamic mysticism and the migrational literary conceptualizations in Germany and Turkey.
Yılmaz says, she finds it vital for everyone to understand a deeper sense of self and that she writes creatively to attain and nourish a more comprehensive understanding and development of our humanity.
