Ally Glass-Katz

Over the last five years, I’ve had the honor of editing various novels, memoirs, and short story collections, as well as serving as the fiction editor for Bat City Review. I’m an encouraging and generous reader, concerned with making your voice and story ring true.

A graduate of the Michener Center for Writers, I’ve published short fiction in nationally renowned literary journals including The Southern Review, the Sewanee Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, and elsewhere.

I have a soft spot for short story collections and literary fiction, as well as memoir, romance, mystery, and YA. I specialize in developmental editing, book coaching, and manuscript evaluations, bringing my experience as a writer, editor, and former intern at Random House.

I look forward to connecting!

“Working with Ally Glass-Katz is a dream! Over the years she has given me incredibly thoughtful, smart, incisive notes on many of my short stories. She is an amazing and generous reader who expertly balances attention to audience with your vision as a writer. I wholeheartedly recommend Ally for all your editing projects!”

“Ally Glass-Katz is a monumentally talented fiction editor. She has a gift for finding the words that fall flat, the sentences that don’t land, the characters that don’t fully validate themselves. Her advice is always illuminating and concise. It is also kind and generous! She has taught me so much about writing on the sentence level, as well as the deeper, thematic level.”

~Rachel Engelman, Author and Creative Writing Teacher

“Ally did an incredible job editing and critiquing my manuscript. Her analysis and spot-on suggestions took the story to a new level that I had wanted but didn’t know how to reach. Her criticisms were both thoughtful and fitting for the style and goals of my novel. Plus they were kind. After discussions with her, I was always excited to get back to my rewrite. I know that every manuscript I write, I will ask Ally for her help.”

~Dr. Vern Katz, Author and Doctor

“Ally Glass-Katz has been such a help during my novel-writing process. Her insights are specific, honest, and productive. She offers feedback in the way of both line-edits and comprehensive tone, reading not only for grammar but emotional efficacy, character development, and plot advancement. I loved working with her and absolutely recommend her for your creative and academic editing needs.”
