Andrea Friedman

Andrea Friedman Editing

As a Professor of History and Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies for 27 years, I found my  passion in helping students and colleagues understand exactly what they want to say and how to say it in the clearest, most persuasive, and most powerful terms. Now I specialize in developmental editing for scholars at any rank  in history, the history of sexuality, gender and queer studies, and interdisciplinary humanities generally. I will work with you to craft winning  journal articles, book chapters, book proposals, dissertations, monographs, or website text.

My expertise as a freelance developmental editor is founded in my own publishing record in academic journals, presses, and websites,  as well as my decades of experience as a writing and publishing mentor for graduate students, postdocs, and teachers and professors at all ranks. I am proud of my reputation as a careful listener and an excellent writer. But what will be most valuable to you is my ability to see the “big picture,” and to help you and your readers–whether they be acquisitions editors, senior colleagues, or scholars in your field–see it too.

In addition to the main developmental editing tasks of helping you to clarify your ideas, structure your argument, and support it with persuasive and relevant evidence, I also offer coaching for academic writers and line editing services.
