Anna Fiorino

I copyedit articles and manuscripts, ranging from historical fiction to thrillers to memoirs, for publication. Since 2018, I’ve served as a freelance copyeditor for The Sager Group (San Diego, CA). I’ve copyedited novels by bestselling author and former L.A. Times columnist Chris Erskine, “Seinfeld” writer/producer Peter Mehlman, and award-winning journalist Mike Sager. I have been published in the Daily Aztec, San Diego CityBeat, and the San Diego Union-Tribune.

“I would say that Anna Fiorino is a copyediting savant, except she’s great at a lot of other things, too. She has a keen creative mind; the gears are always turning, often with a refreshing POV. From the moment I met her as a college sophomore, when she was recommended as a paid assistant, I have kept her close. I, in turn, recommend her most highly—as long as you leave time for her to work with us!”

-Mike Sager, contributing editor for Esquire and publisher of The Sager Group

I obtained my professional copyediting certificate from the University of California, San Diego in 2018. This consisted of four core courses: Grammar Lab, Copyediting I, Copyediting II, and Copyediting III.

In 2020, I graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor’s in journalism (with an emphasis in advertising). My coursework focused extensively on effective communication—digital and print content creation, promotional messaging and ad campaigns, journalistic writing and reporting—and the distribution of polished content through different media channels.

“As writers and artists, we all strive for our work to be equal parts cerebral and comprehendible. Anna’s work strikes this balance, which is a testament to her natural skills and, more importantly, her distinctive outlook and instincts.”

-Seth Combs, former editor of San Diego CityBeat

In addition to editing, I am interested in fact-checking, research, and working with self-publishing clients.

At the core of my work is a love for reading. I enjoy providing the attention every piece of work deserves, whether it be a novel or advertising copy, to ensure accuracy, clarity, concision, and style.
