Annalisa Bolin
I am a freelance editor with 9 years of experience and an erstwhile academic with a PhD in anthropology and an extensive international research background. I specialize in line editing and copyediting, especially academic editing in social sciences and humanities, and work often with people writing in English as Second Language (ESL).
I love working at a sentence and paragraph level: smoothing out language, cleaning up grammar, spelling, and punctuation, installing transitions, pointing out gaps in the structure or argument, and generally making your writing sound like you, but better. I can also provide big-picture feedback (is your argument working? How’s the structure?) or proofread a final draft to catch any mistakes before it goes to press.
Fields I’ve worked in include anthropology, archaeology, heritage studies, art history, urban studies, law, and even chemical engineering. I have edited books, articles, grant applications, proposals, and other materials like presentations and public essays. I also regularly do peer review for articles and book manuscripts—and I’ve been the editorial assistant for an archaeology journal for years—so I know what your reviewers are going to look for, too. My own publications have appeared in academic journals, edited volumes, blogs, and elsewhere (including literary magazines), so I can help tailor your writing for different audiences.
My rates are in line with EFA norms but I also have reduced rates for clients at institutions in the Global South. Please see my website for more info!
