Ashley Strosnider

I’m a writer and an editor with experience ranging from traditional to commercial to indie/self-publishing to small-press literary journals. I’m the Senior Content Editor for a marketing company by day, and I work on book manuscripts by night. I recently served as the Managing Editor at Prairie Schooner, one of the oldest and most celebrated literary journals in the US and formerly worked with Amazon’s CreateSpace/KDP. This experience allows me to combine familiarity with traditional and indie publishing to collaborate with writers who bring a variety of publication goals to their work.

Writers need supportive critique, empathetic editing, and a creative exchange of ideas. I’m dedicated to providing that in my work. I’m an enthusiastic and detail-oriented professional with a MFA degree in creative writing and more than ten years of broad professional editorial experience. I bring to each project a unique range of experience, expertise in multiple editorial styles, creative problem-solving skills, clear communication, and an eye for clean, concise copy.

From substantive developmental editing to a nitty-gritty proofread, I’ve helped writers with a range of work across multiple genres. We work together to improve sentence flow, plot pacing, character development, or just to get all the dialogue punctuated correctly and eliminate typos or repetition of favorite adjectives. I specialize in fiction, with deep experience in literary fiction, romance, and cozy mysteries, and my other main areas are history, poetry, and nonfiction — with extensive experience in light medical, business leadership, and personal finance. I’m not a genre snob, though, and I love a good story or idea, no matter the style or field. If you think we might be a good fit, I’m open to discussing any type of editorial collaboration. I’d love to hear from you.
