Bridget Carrick

You’ve written down all you can about your researched subject or lived experience. You’ve worked through multiple drafts and have sent it to beta readers, reviewers, workshoppers, or a developmental editor. Now what? You need someone to come in with a broom to tidy up your craft, someone who can give (1) grammatical expertise and (2) a pair of fresh eyes from outside your field to make sure your audience will understand exactly what you’re trying to say.

By working with a copyeditor and proofreader, your work will be published in its best form—making sure you stand out from the rest. That’s where I can come in.

I am a freelance editor, proofreader, and designer who specializes in nonfiction general trade and memoirs, and I always like working on new subjects. Some of the projects I’ve helped get published involve self-improvement, business and leadership development, social science research, mind-body-spirit, psychology, creative nonfiction, memoirs, demographic research, and K–12 education.

If you’re an expert in your field trying to impart your research and knowledge, a memoirist sharing a personal slice of your life, or a publisher who has a stack of manuscripts or proofs piling up, I can help.

If you think we’d be a good match, I offer free 30-minute consultations. Just email me at bridget@carrickeditorial.com, I’m always happy to chat. And if you’re curious to know more about my services or want to read my blog on writing and editing, visit my website, carrickeditorial.com.

To get an idea of the type of people and organizations I work with, here are some of my clients: Max Planck Institute’s Demographic Research, PeopleSpeak Publishing Consultant (where I work on projects from Berrett-Koehler and independent authors), Girl Friday Productions, Rethinking Schools, Scribe Media, Oregon English Journal, and others.

Here’s what some of my favorite people have said about working with me:

“I hope to work with her again on my next book! She is a talented professional, knows her craft well, and is a pleasure to work with. Bridget’s work made my book immensely better!” —Gina Wilson, author of Skills That Build: The Hard Science of Soft Skills for Work and Life

“Bridget quickly became an indispensable asset. In an internal assessment sheet used to keep track of copyeditors’ past assignments and performances, Bridget is listed with highest marks for ‘Timeliness,’ ‘Correctness,’ ‘Comment quality,’ and ‘Speediness.'” —Jana Tetzlaff, managing editor, Demographic Research

“We are so lucky to have Bridget as a part of our editorial team. She’s knowledgeable, reliable, patient with our dithering, and catches the craziest mistakes. Her attention to detail is superb, and she’s an excellent communicator. We honestly don’t know what we’d do without her.” —Aleta Florentin, production manager, Amber Lotus Publishing

“We value her good judgment, attention to detail, no-nonsense approach, and timeliness—and as a long-distance coworker who’s always responsive [and] courteous. Working with Bridget is a pleasure all around, and we’re glad to have her on board.” —Alexandra Hähnert, Demographic Research (March 2018)

“I greatly appreciate the excellent copy editing job. Over the years I’ve noticed that the quality of the copy editing my papers received greatly declined at most journals. It’s nice to experience high quality copy editing again!” —Lowell L. Hargens, researcher, via Demographic Research

“Her remarkable investment in this project demonstrates not only her competency as a writer/editor, but also her respect for the vision of the author.” —Shane Abrams, author of PSU’s Open Access Writing Textbook

“Bridget Carrick is a thoughtful, detail-oriented editor who was a huge help on the forthcoming Rethinking Ethnic Studies.” —Kjerstin Johnson, editor

“Bridget empowered me to trust my own abilities by drawing out the best version of my writing as we worked together.” —Saumya Kini, Fulbright Scholar
