The Editing Pencil

Hello and welcome! Here’s a bit about me:

I’m curious by nature. If there’s something I don’t know or understand, I’ll investigate. I have an eye for detail, so copyediting and proofreading are a good fit for my skills and background. But, delivering a quality, professional product isn’t only about grammar and punctuation. It’s also about:

  • Demonstrating professionalism
  • Using clear, understandable language
  • Clarifying any words or phrases that could be misunderstood by your audience
  • Recognizing offensive or biased language
  • Time management
  • Accuracy, accuracy, accuracy

What Can I Deliver for You?

Past projects include newsletters, online teaching materials, medical and nursing textbooks, a law book on case reviews, marketing collateral, corporate communications, and financial reports.

Style Guides Used

  • The Chicago Manual of Style
  • The Bluebook
  • The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
  • The AMA Manual of Style
  • The Associated Press Stylebook

How Did I Get Here?

Before freelance editing, I worked in a variety of positions and industries including manufacturing, marketing, agriculture, economics, IT, architecture, real estate, insurance, and theater arts. This knowledge helps me to notice factual errors in various project areas.

I’ve studied several languages (French, Spanish, and Arabic), and I studied and traveled abroad, later becoming an ESL instructor. My background as a teacher has taught me how to clearly communicate complex topics to any audience.

Contact me about your next project! Let’s talk. You’ll find me at carlaattheeditingpencil.com or my website, The Editing Pencil.
