Catherine Dunn

I’m a UK-based editor, and I’ve been copyediting and proofreading since 2015. I work in both UK and US English equally (I’ve even been known to work in Canadian English!). My experience includes fiction and non-fiction, but I do have a slight preference for fiction. My genres of expertise are fantasy, science fiction, romance, horror, and YA. I also have experience with contemporary fiction, memoir, humour, crime, and action.

My university degree is in Fine Art (Painting), and in non-fiction, I specialise in the arts, humanities, social sciences, lifestyle, self-help, and business.

I’m an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (the UK industry body), which required me to have at least 1,500 hours of experience and provide evidence of having undertaken a certain amount of training and development, as well as providing two references from clients in the publishing industry.

I love working on things that are different or outside the norm. In particular, I’m comfortable with scenes that some other editors may find difficult, such as those depicting violence or that may be unpleasant or triggering in other ways. I really enjoy working with new authors, especially those who are little unsure – my aim is to support you and help your writing be the best it can be. If you have dyslexia or some other issue with getting your thoughts and ideas down, it’s my job to make that not a problem! I also have a thing for unconventional structures and unusual writing styles, so if this sounds like you, please get in touch!
