Dana Draper

Query Buddy Editorial

“She was phenomenal to work with. She’s professional, her turnaround time was AMAZING, and she kept it honest the whole time. I’m so glad I hired her, and I look forward to working with her again.”

~Trish R., fiction author

I am Dana Choe-Murray Draper (she/her), and I am a Fiction author, experienced and licensed English teacher, and freelance developmental editor of books and query packages. My fiction work is represented by Root Literary Agency, and my genres of expertise are Science Fiction and Fantasy.

Her comments and suggestions…helped me strength them further in regard to plot clarity, stakes, and character development. Her turn-around time is quick, and most of all, she’s so kind and encouraging in all her comments!”

~Selena Thor, YA fiction author

My editing experience ranges from developmental work on fiction manuscripts and query packages to line edits to proofreading and writing non-fiction, education-focused articles. I’ve been working as a freelancer for 3+ years on multiple platforms including Upwork and my own professional website. Currently, my focus and passion is working with authors seeking representation or self-publishing on developmental editorial work on their manuscripts.

I had Dana look over my query letter and opening pages for my YA fantasy, which at the time was getting nothing but rejections… After taking her suggestions, I got my first full and partial request for that manuscript! She was also very communicative throughout and her feedback was very detailed.”

~C.W. Rose, YA fiction author

My educational background is strongly rooted in English, literature, the foundations of storytelling and literary analysis, and creative writing. I have 5+ years of experience teaching English and Writing at various levels, and I hold a Master’s degree in English and Creative Writing with a Fiction focus. Working with agents, editors, peer authors, and critique partners has helped me not only become an expert at developing my own craft, but also helping others see and reach the potential of theirs as well.

With me, you can be sure of the following:

  • Timely communication
  • Honest feedback, specific to your needs
  • A collaborative atmosphere
  • Editorial dialogue (your voice will matter in this process)
  • Targeted highlights of your craft’s strength
